Apple Lovin’

Every year I make a family trek to Raven Hill Orchard just a few minutes outside downtown Julian to enjoy good old fashioned apple picking.  This orchard has quirky, friendly owners and trees as far as the eye can see.  There are plenty of apples here to go around.  The nearby quaint gold mining town of Julian was established in the 1870’s.  It’s located in the mountains an hour east of San Diego.  Julian is famous for amazing apple pie.  And rightly so!  It IS fabulous.  Today I waited in line for almost 30 minutes to consume that flakey, sweet thing called apple pie.  For me, the apple picking ritual ushers in the true essence of fall and is a relaxing, fun way to reconnect with family and mother earth.

Hurray for Fall!

Shoulder picking gives an edge on the competition!

Gorgeous, ripe fruit, just waiting to be picked. I love sampling the different types of apples as I stroll along endless isles of fruit trees.

Apple pride.

A gorgeous setting tucked away in the mountains.

Feel a sparked interest in doing your own picking?  The season extends from mid September to mid October.  I know you’ll enjoy it!
